Buddhaland: Ancient Spirituality for a Contemporary World

An authentic community built on art, spirituality, and technology, as well as an ongoing exploration on the future of Buddhism in the age of AI and what an awakened life looks like inside the world we actually inhabit.

There is a teaching in Buddhism that has influenced many of the things I do in life. It tells us that every being already possesses buddha-nature: boundless wisdom and compassion inherent in each of us. It teaches that all beings are interdependent, and that a life is well spent improving oneself while benefiting others.

Along my personal journey, from a student of Buddhist art, to a curator and cultural advisor working across museums, monasteries, and private collections, and eventually to a practitioner, I have witnessed very different lives, from a wandering yogi who owns nothing to billionaires who seem to have everything. Ultimately we are the same: searching for meaning and happiness.

In a sense, I live between worlds, ancient and contemporary, secular and spiritual, East and West. And from that vantage point, I have come to see a gap in our own time. We face challenges no previous generation has known in quite this form: an economy built on capturing our attention, information without discernment, polarisation, and the questions artificial intelligence now raises about what it means to be human at all. Even the most accomplished people find themselves isolated, fragmented, uncertain of purpose. Mainstream wellness does not reach the depth of the problem. Traditional religion often does not speak their language.

Yet the tradition I study and practice has been answering questions like these for two and a half millennia. Born on the Indian subcontinent, Buddhism travelled first to Central Asia and China, then across Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, and beyond, each time learning to speak in new forms while keeping its essence intact. I believe our moment asks for the same courage of adaptation.

But how? How do we sustain ancient spirituality while ensuring it genuinely benefits contemporary life? My answer is Buddhaland, an authentic community for entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, and spiritual seekers, learning together what an awakened life might look like inside the world we actually inhabit.

Buddhaland brings together three forces: art, spirituality, and technology. Art, because it is a tangible expression of consciousness, a mirror in which we recognise ourselves. Spirituality, grounded in living lineages and genuine teachers rather than commodified self-optimisation. Technology, neither saviour nor threat, but a force whose direction depends on the consciousness of those who wield it, and which allows a community of this kind to exist across geography and culture.

From very early in my life, I have known my purpose: to create something beautiful in this world. Through my twenties I searched for direction, and I found Buddhism. Since then the question has been how. Buddhaland is my answer, and it is only a beginning.

I invite you to search together with me.
